PreFlight
Our PreFlight department helps to smooth out the production workflow. PreFlight checks for such things as missing fonts and images, proper file formats, resolution and correct color modes (CMYK vs. RGB). This inspection of your file(s) ensures that the job is ready for production.

Desktop Publishing
Tursack's desktop operators work on both PC's and Mac's. The Macintosh environment remains the industry-preferred platform for Desktop Publishing. Our Power Macintosh workstations coupled with a 100BaseT fast Ethernet network allow each station rapid access to your files. Our CreoScitex Ripro server ensures that your files will be accessible at all times and will be safe until we back up them up for long term storage. The juke box DLT 4500 serves as additional protection to your files and gives us a full two week retention of any file or folders that may have been deleted.

Scanning
We have one Dainippon Screen drum scanner. The oil mounting process we implement as a normal workflow helps to eliminate any surface scratches that might occur through handling. For other projects we also use a Heidelberg flatbed scanner. The Scanning Department also contains a retouching and color correction station for any necessary color adjustments once the scan has been captured.

Imposition
The CreoScitex Brisque workflow allows us to work with single pages to rip, trap and impose files. If your job requires a change to one page only, we will resend that page alone. The page is then ripped, trapped, and overwritten in the existing imposition. This is unlike many other workflows where the imposition is done at the Mac. Mac-based imposition results in moving much larger files around the network. It also opens the door to potential problems on pages that did not require any changes. When using Mac-based imposition, all pages must be reprocessed.

Proofing
Two IRIS RealistFX proofers housed in a climate-controlled environment are used for color approval. These are 4-up units, which can be tiled to create two proofs for an 8-up imposition. We have taken great care and many hours of color calibrating to recreate the results expected on press. We also have two IRIS 43WIDE color digital proofers used to replace the conventional blueline proof. These units back up the sheet so that jobs can be booked up to check content and page position.

Plating
Two Lotem 800V Digital Platesetters allow us to print a much higher quality job. We can run a job on press with more ink for better contrast and also keep three quarter tone areas open, resulting in more detail on the press sheet. The Lotems use a positive plate, which minimizes dirt. This first generation plate produces a much sharper dot. Dot gain is no longer a problem as it is with conventional plating processes. The Lotem's automated processor and plate stacker exposes, develops and stacks plates ensuring against damage. Plates are inspected for content and quality. Plates then move to Quality Control for a second inspection before printing.

In addition to the Lotem platesetters, we have a Dolev 800V in our film plotting area. Our 800V is loaded with 2 large rolls of film for plotting. The CreoScitex workflow allows last minute changes to be made to the line screen setting, accommodating any change to the paper stock that may occur. The 800V is connected to a Carnfeldt processor for automated film transfer and processing. |
